Maw believes Jimenez could replace Harry Kane at Tottenham

The Athletic journalist James Maw believes Raul Jimenez could prove an ideal candidate for Tottenham Hotspur, should Harry Kane part ways with the club during the summer transfer window. Kane has been the standout performer for Spurs for nearly six years and he has contributed 181 goals from just 278 games in all competitions.

Despite his superlative efforts, Spurs have not been able to end their trophy drought which has extended to 12 years and there are suggestions that the striker could pursue a big-money elsewhere this summer. Kane has yet to give any indication that he could part ways with the north London side but Maw believes Jimenez could be a probable option for Spurs, suppose the England captain heads through the exit door.

He wrote for the publication: “That is a very difficult question. I think it’s more or less impossible to replace Harry Kane with a like-for-like replacement.I mean if they could get someone like Raul Jimenez, that would be incredible because he’s very much in that mold, and I mean potentially looks like he could even maybe be better.”

Jimenez joined Wolves on a season-long loan from Benfica last summer and he managed to catch the eye with 17 goals across all competitions. As such, the west Midlands outfit took the option to sign him on a permanent deal last summer and he has continued with the same vein of form, having contributed 22 goals for the club this term.

Other than his goals, the Mexico international has also impressed with the distribution in the final third and he has bagged an impressive 10 assists during the current campaign. Apart from Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the former Benfica man, who is reportedly valued at around £60m.
